I even missed my 2 year bandiversary post. I haven't felt too successful the past few months, so had no reason to blog. I have not run since April, I haven't worked out since April. Let me explain.

When I was 16 I hurt my right foot playing soccer. I stepped in a gopher hole and was told that I severely strained the ligaments in my foot. I was not able to walk in a shoe for 2 months and my foot has always been a little bigger since that injury.

Fast forward 20 yrs.

I had been running for 4 months. I did a half marathon and survived. Corporate Challenge started in March and I signed up for as much as I could. After the 5k in April I started getting a weird pulling feeling at the bottom of my right heel. That same week we had volleyball (which we took gold in!) and it was 6 hrs of jumping and bouncing around on the courts. 2 days later, during a neighborhood BBQ, my right foot swelled up to the size of a football. Had x-rays, tried some PT, had some more x-rays, was sent to a specialist, had even more x-rays (something strange was found by the specialist in my standing x-ray), went for an MRI and discovered that I was misdiagnosed when younger. I had actually broken my foot when I was 16 yrs old, the bone healed strange and ligaments that had torn (not strained) attached to the fractured bone. 20 yrs later, with being as active as I had been the first 4 months of this year, and volleyball added on top of that, cause the bone to chip and the bones in my foot to dislocate.

Did you follow all that?

In a nutshell, my right foot has a closed dislocation and will need surgery to correct. I had steroid injections done last week and haven't had any pain (unless I wear flip flops) in my foot since 2 days after the procedure. It will only last about 3 months. When I get surgery I will not be able to put any weight on my foot for 2-3 months. My doctor told me yesterday I need to prepare to be off of work for 2-3 months because I won't even be able to drive. That means I need disability coverage to help cover my loss of income during that time. But THAT means I cannot have ANY treatment for my foot for the next 12 months.

What does all of this mean? I will not run for at least a year and a half. I cannot participate in any high impact activity for at least a year and a half. I need to stop eating ice cream because I am so bummed out about not being able to do what I love.

I am looking for suggestions to some of your favorite low-impact exercises so I can drop the 10 lbs I have put on since April.

Ready. Set. GO!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-89395802124070323942013-04-15T19:09:00.001-07:002013-04-15T19:15:10.436-07:00Boston MarathonOnly one word to describe the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Horrific.

It is hard to not be affected by a terrorist act taking place on U.S. soil, but I am so much more upset about this, as a runner. There is a camaraderie in the running world. You work very hard to prepare to compete in something that is one of the most physically grueling activities you can put your body through. Granted, I am a new runner and not anyone who would ever be able to qualify to run the Boston Marathon, but I have done many large running events and am doing the most important one thus far in AZ this weekend, Pat's Run. There are over 30,000 people expected at this run. The same amount that were in attendance at the Boston Marathon. That is an incredibly large group of people. People that include wives, husbands, children and parents who were there to cheer on their loved ones in what would have been one of the greatest celebrations of their lives. Volunteers who help to keep things moving smoothly. Paramedics and physicians who are there to help injured athletes. Now there are 3 dead, one an 8 yr old child, and over 120 others who were injured by the acts of someone without a soul.

All we can do today is pray for all of those people who are affected by what has happened.

Prayers for Boston.Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-18301833943451918082013-03-11T21:48:00.003-07:002013-03-11T22:00:17.287-07:00Half Marathon Recap
Yesterday I participated in my first half marathon. My son did it with me and I am so very thankful for him being so supportive. It was one of the toughest things I have ever done, physically. I did NOT train for it...never even considered doing a half until we did our 8k three weeks ago. I saw a Groupon deal for it and thought, "What the heck. Why not?"

Yesterday morning started out great. We woke up at 5:30 a.m. in order to be out of the house by 6:30. We had an hour drive to Peoria from Mesa. I was scared but excited. I was about to do 13.1 miles. I have never participated in anything longer than an 8k and I thought I was going to die doing that a few weeks back. We got to the park about 40 min before start time and I immediately thought "What the hell did I get us into?" There were not many runners but the ones who were there were serious runners. Umm, definitely not me...at least not yet.

I had my son and I set up towards the back of the group. We started at 8:00. The weather was perfect. Felt pretty good about this adventure. I started out doing really well. I ran for over a half mile straight before starting to feel a little winded and tired. I was pacing myself to keep from keeling over later on. (Remember, I just started running 6 weeks ago. I still suck at it but am getting better.) My goal was to try and run 5 min and then walk 5 min through the race. Yeah, not so much.

By mile 2 the participants in the 4 mile "fun run" began to catch up with us. "Really? Whatever show-offs. Of course you can run faster than me, I am going 9 more miles after your are finished" is what I thought, but I was coming to find out how truly hard this was going to be. Oh, this is why people train for months for one of these things!

I was doing great energy wise and was singing loud, dancing around during our walking sessions and generally trying to embarrass the teenager from miles 3-5. We were having a good time. Then the leader came back from the other direction and I thought "Oh shit." I turned around at the next mile sign and saw 12 miles. Um, we aren't even half way and the leaders are almost finished! We did 5 miles in an hour but still had 8 more to go. Maybe I need to get serious here.

The running for 5 walking for 5 thing lasted a very short period of time. By mile 6 I was lucky if I could run for .10 mile without needing to stop. I did my first energy gel (PB flavor) and it helped a little bit. At mile 6 I sent my son ahead. He is in better shape than me and can run longer distances. "Go on...save yourself! I'll make it without you."

After another 1/2 mile a huge group of runners passed me going the other way. They were getting closer to that finish line as I walked further away from it, and I began to see how far behind I was and started to get worried. Am I the last one?? I spent the next 3 miles trying to catch up with the older lady in front of me who was walking her ass off and not slowing down a bit. Why can't I catch her?! During this part I was also getting a lot of support from the returning runners who were telling me how great I was doing and to keep up the awesome work. I started to cry. I couldn't help but think they knew I was the last one and felt sorry for me. The crying caused my sunscreen spray to get into my eyes and that made me mad and cry even more. Around mile 7-8 I became very emotional. Thought I was losing my mind for a bit. Here are these actual runners telling me how great I was doing when I was doubting myself and even saying how stupid I was to attempt to do something like this with no real training. So for about 3 miles I walked. All I did was walk. I was so sore. I was so tired. There was no way that I was going to be able to run again during this event.

The finally I hit mile 9 and about a half mile after that was the turn around spot to head back towards the finish line. Did my 2nd energy gel (chocolate, barf) and saw that I wasn't last...I was second to last. Holy crap. Catch the old lady!!

When I got to mile 10, I got a boost from somewhere. I looked at my HRM and saw I was going to have to push myself to finish in the 3:30 I set my goal at. Okay, run. Well...jog. I jogged off and on for the next 2 miles. Wanted to cry again when I saw mile 12 because I only had 1 more to go. Then I saw the old lady!!! Catch her!!!! I did...I ran until I caught up to and passed her. I looked behind me and the woman in last place was closing in on me. Walked for another 1/2 mile until I hit mile 13. Then I ran. I ran as hard as I could at that point (which wasn't much, believe me) and crossed the finish line at 3:25. I was handed my medal and it was over. Almost everyone was gone at that point. I was feeling very let down. No festivities, no "Hooray, you did it!" from random strangers. My family wasn't even at the finish line. My son came in about 15 min before me and had gone to get my husband from the truck. I would have probably cried had I not been so tired. So I put on my medal, walked to the water table and got a drink with the woman who had been behind me the entire race. Ate a banana, found my family and headed to the truck. It was done. I was in pain. My fingers were as swollen hot dogs and my hands looked like balloons.

Since we were on that side of the valley we went to Cabela's immediately after leaving the park. I knew that I was going to be in trouble in a few hours by how I felt at that point. Made myself comfy on a stack of rifle cases that I prayed wouldn't fall from under me while my husband shopped. I could hardly walk. Drove an hour back home and could hardly move to get out of the truck. I made my way upstairs and took a shower because I smelled pretty ripe (note to self, don't forget deodorant when doing 3 1/2 hrs of physical activity). I felt slightly better after my shower but had a hard time getting dressed because my legs forgot how to work.

Last night I was in so much pain I couldn't believe I paid money to feel so bad. I was very grateful my MIL invited us over to dinner or everyone in my house would have starved. I was waddling and could barely lift my legs to walk, let alone do anything else. I laid around a lot. Took a bath when we got back home, took some anti-inflammatories, put in a movie and went to bed. I slept like a rock. Didn't hear a thing until my husband came in to kiss me goodbye on his way to work.Woke up this morning feeling 70% better.

This was the most physically challenging thing I have ever done. It will not be my last. I will train for another half and will run it. I ran about 3 miles total in this one. Weak, but I finished.

Out of 220 participants I came in 218th. You want to know the definition of humbling? Having people twice your age kick your ass in a running event. But again, I started and finished it under my goal time. And for that, I am truly proud.
It is embarrassing, uncomfortable and I am sick of it. After a lengthy conversation with my cousin who is a doctor, I decided to to a gluten-free diet for the month of March. I already gave up fast food for Lent so I am cooking at home everyday anyway. When I decided to do it I knew it would be difficult, but I had NO idea how much food contains wheat!! Holy cow! It will be interesting to see the results at the end of the month, but I am already noticing I feel better, my stomach is not as distended as it usually is and I have dropped 3 lbs since Friday. Must be doing something right.

I am also prepping for my first half marathon on Sunday. Yup, I took the plunge and signed up for it. Am I crazy or what?! Sounds like we are going to have some craptastic weather in AZ this weekend so that will just be perfect. Bring it on. Fortunately, my loving son is also going to participate in it with me. I took the day off work on Monday to try and rest & recoup and will drive back to Vegas with my boy for his Spring Break. I will post photos and all the gory details next week!!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-84466849988356641502013-02-27T19:07:00.003-08:002013-02-27T19:07:54.115-08:00Duck DynastyIt's back!!! Post over :-)Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-10122837391054784372013-02-25T18:38:00.002-08:002013-02-25T18:38:57.978-08:00I Want To Be Like Forest GumpI want to be a runner. I want to want to run and keep on running. I want to be able to run for more than 5 minutes at a time. I want to be able to run a 5k and RUN the entire thing...not feel like I am going to die after running 1/4 of a mile. Then progress to longer runs. I know, it takes time for your body to get in runner's shape and to build up that endurance. But I want to be able to do it now!! I want to get that runner's mind where nothing can stop me...I can keep on going no matter what. I don't have that. Is there an app for that?

But on a more positive note, I am going to do my first half marathon in 2 weeks. Walking in my first half marathon, that is. Well, I am pretending to be a runner now. My son and I participated in the 8k trail run as a part of the Lost Dutchman Marathon on Sunday and it was ROUGH. Very loose sand, so it was like running on the beach with 5 million rocks that tried to make you roll and break your ankle every 5 feet. My goal was to finish it in less than 1 hr 15 min and I finished in 1 hr 8 min, so that made me happy. My awesome son ran it in 58 min. I told him that if he was faster than me, to GO. Was very proud of him for completing it with me. It was so much tougher than I thought it would be. I honestly think the 10k on the road would have been easier. Oh well, at least we did it! Here are some photos of my boy and me from the run.
I have decided that over the next year I will continue to run and will complete the Lost Dutchman Half Marathon next February. I have a running coach lined up to help me and will register as soon as it opens. I will do it and I will complete it. My husband, son and I will also run in various events each month and we already have our next two planned, the Salute a Soldier 5k in March and Pat's Run, to support the Pat Tillman Foundation, in April. Are you sensing a pattern? With my husband being a veteran, we are all about supporting the troops/veterans and this gives him reason to participate in the runs as well. The 5k should be a pretty easy run, and Pat's Run is 4.2 miles...ending on the 42 yard line of ASU stadium. Very fun that we will be able to run onto the field but the run up to the stadium will be killer. If you have ever been there, you understand. If you haven't, all you need to know is it is built into a mountain in the middle of Tempe :-)

Have you done running events? Anyone ever do a half or even a full marathon? Please share your stories and advice and get running!!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-91857630832022830002013-02-01T17:23:00.001-08:002013-02-01T18:07:02.824-08:00Juice Fast ResultsI haven't had the chance to update you on my juice fast results. I did not make it the full 7 days because when I am with my family on the weekend we are busy folks and usually end up eating out. Well, 7 days down and I lost 6.2 lbs. Not too shabby for being satisfied and only having liquid and the occasional banana and strawberries during the week. I had juice Saturday morning but ate regular food the rest of the weekend. Did not overdo it, ate as I normally would. Weighed myself on Monday morning and was UP 4.2 lbs. Really? Now granted, I did not drink water like I usually do the entire weekend and when I did get my water in on Monday, I was down 2 lbs.

How did I feel during and after the fast? Wonderful!!! I had energy. I was not dying of hunger every day (just twice I wanted to eat my hand) and I was very happy with the end result. Amazing what happens when you get the proper nutrients in every day. One major thing I noticed was my lack of sweet cravings...which is strange because I am a chocolate fiend.

This week I have juiced for breakfast and usually dinner. I have decided to eat my "big" meal at lunch so I don't graze at work. No weight lost (and no weight gained), but that might have something to do with the 500,000 mg of sodium I ingested last night at Jason's Deli while indulging in a salad from the salad bar (loaded with veggies!) and a cup of French onion soup. Nom. Haven't drank enough water today to counteract the sodium because my wedding ring is still snug on my finger. I can usually feel my feet swell shortly after I eat it. Think that I have an issue with salt in my diet? Little bit.

Now to concoct a juice for dinner since I ate a Jimmie John's sandwich for lunch. Oink.Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-9546871836964658912013-01-23T14:36:00.003-08:002013-01-23T14:38:44.519-08:00Juice Fast- Day 4I'm hungry. That is all.
Actually, not all, but it is how I feel right now. I have been feeling great until today. Today I am starving! I bought a new Breville juicer last night. I was actually at Bed Bath and Beyond for close to an hour disassembling and reassembling juicers to see which I liked the best. I got some "Can I help you with something?" throughout the process, but when I explained what I was doing they understood. Now I need to get to a produce market and load up! I have used just about everything from the basket my mom and I got this past weekend. The photo above is my new toy.

One plus about the fast? I am down 5 lbs already (read, excess water weight) and have not had to drink Miralax in almost a week. I things are changing for the better!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-89025864142663546292013-01-21T09:35:00.000-08:002013-01-21T09:36:32.812-08:0010 Day Juice FastYup, I bit. Made the family watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on Saturday and my son and I decided to do a 10 day juice fast. I like the idea of the cleansing aspect of it and not having to use supplements to keep *ahem* regular (which is 20 times worse since having surgery). I have been doing occasional juicing but will go full fledged for the 10 day fast to kick start my weight loss again and just transform how I get my nutrients. We have almost gone through all of the juice packs and our baskets from the past 2 weekends so I am going to have to go buy produce from a local market to keep my son supplied. Fortunately there is a market that sells primarily produce not too far from our house and their pricing is a little more expensive than Bountiful Baskets, but much cheaper than other grocery stores.

I have tried to get away from as much processed food as I can the past few months, but it is hard! When you get back in the habit of eating junk, it can be tough to break from it again. Fast food is going to be the toughest one to break. I have been doing really well since the beginning of the year, cooking more at home and bringing lunch from home, but we tend to want to eat out when we are together on the weekends in order to "save time" so we waste money and eat crap. I am happy to report that this weekend, with me being here 4 days, we have not eaten out aside from at the Suns game on Thursday night.

I am also going to the gym. An actual gym. First time being in a gym in, I'm not going to lie, almost a year. Since we are doing the 8k trail run as a part of the Lost Dutchman Marathon next month, I need to get running!! It is beautiful weather this weekend (after nearly freezing to death last weekend) and I am hoping that I stays nice so I can do evening runs after work. Good thing about getting off work at 4:30...there is still daylight when I get home. I hate running on the treadmill so if I am able to run around my mom's neighborhood I will do it more often.Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-15523501916507323412013-01-18T17:32:00.001-08:002013-01-18T17:32:33.041-08:00Juicing (In the Good Way)I'm not talking about taking steroids, but by drinking in your daily fruits & veggies. How many of you actually do it? I have wanted to try it on my own but never started until last week. I get Bountiful Baskets each week and last week they offered their juice pack for the first time, so I bought 2. It had lots of great fruits & veggies (apples, oranges, carrots, cucumber, celery, beets, ginger, lemon, lime) and we got creative. We have a juicer already that we have used a lot for grapefruits we pick off my in laws' trees, but I want to get a better one...perhaps a Breville? In the meantime to make it easier for my husband and son to make juices and smoothies for themselves in the morning, we bought a NutriBullet at Walmart last weekend. It worked great for my husband and son's breakfast, however I had a dirt smoothie. Well, at least that is what it smelled and tasted like. Why, you say? Because I added beet to mine. Made it beautiful but it tasted like my garden soil. I literally had to put a straw in and chug in order to actually finish it and not let anything go to waste. It was HORRIBLE. No matter what else I added, it tasted like dirt. Lesson learned. Follow recipes when using beets. Only good thing was that it helped to keep me regular, if you catch my drift. It is helping with the weight loss and I have dropped 5 lbs since the beginning of the year, but I need to keep up with it better.

Any favorite blends of juices you like? Please share!!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-55468684780131860652013-01-01T21:27:00.000-08:002013-01-01T21:50:04.603-08:00Happy New Year!! Oh Yeah, I Have A Blog.

I knew it had been a while since I visited my blog, but yikes, I didn't know it has been over 3 months! In my defense (read, excuses) I had a major laptop malfunction in Sept/Oct and just replaced it in early Dec. Aside from that, I have been working, doing the occasional party and traveling every weekend to Mesa to be with my husband and son. Yup, I am STILL doing that. I thought it would get easier with time, and some weeks it is, for the most part it sucks. But I LOVE my job here and my husband LOVES his job in Mesa. I guess we could have bigger problems, right?

So much has happened in the past few months. We went to our first NFL game as a family for our son's birthday and that was a lot of fun. I also went to every home game that my son had with his own football team and that was always a thrill!
In October I chopped off my hair....14 inches to be exact! Talk about exhilarating! You can't tell in this photo but it is a cute A-line bob. I was scared to go above shoulder length but the back was right at the top of my shoulders. It has grown about an inch since it cut it.
The weekend after our anniversary my boss took us out for our office holiday party and it was QUITE the event! The hubby and I took advantage of the occasion to actually celebrate our anniversary and stayed on the strip in order to avoid any drinking and driving. Our evening included dinner at Lakeside at the Wynn and then we saw the final performance of Garth Brooks!! It was so fun to get all dolled up and have an evening out! To say that evening was phenomenal would be an understatement! Have I ever mentioned how awesome my job is??

I have also neglected maintaining any sort of diet and the scale reflects it. Remember in September me freaking out about being 204? Well, now the holidays have come and gone and all I can say is oy vey. I weighed in last Friday at 208. Admitting that I have put on 19 lbs since Sept makes me sick to my stomach. I had a lot of fluid taken out of my band in October because of being too tight and not being able to get anything down for a day, found out that I can eat ALL SORTS of bad stuff again and went to town. I also have not worked out since the summer. Yup...over 6 months. I will do this and that every now and then, but nothing true where I can say I actually exercised. To say that I have had some self reckoning is an understatement. I realized I did really, really good when I was blogging and was "held accountable" to who knows how many people, so I am going to make my resolution to blog at least once a week. I have connected with my old trainer and she is creating an exercise regimen for me to follow at home in my mom's home gym, I am going to start running again (well, jogging) to build back my endurance, and I am going in to see my surgeon for a fill on the 10th. This week I am signing up for a 8K trail run that will be President's Day weekend as a part of the Lost Dutchman Marathon. I did the 2 mile fun run 5 years ago and thought I was going to die. Ha!

May 27th will mark 2 years since surgery and while I realize I may not be at my goal weight of 170, I have GOT to be at 180 by then. That is a LOT of weight to drop in 5 months. I am going to keep my goal weight in mind every day and push to get there. I was so close a few months ago and reverted back to my old ways of snacking, continuing to eat even though I was full/not weighing my food (SO not good for a bandster) and just eating crap instead of what I am supposed to. I have done a lot of eating out since the move took place and need/want to get cooking again. I find that cooking, along with canning and gardening, are very therapeutic for me and help to make time go by during the week. I have also learned about making things that I would buy at the store (ie, peanut and almond butter) and know how to make it without all of the crap they put in it!

So there you have it! I'm back and laying it all out there for everyone to see again. Happy New Year!!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-63363122413259618292012-09-20T20:30:00.001-07:002012-09-20T20:30:08.122-07:00I Have Been Avoiding the ScaleAnd for good reason. After the unfill and gallbladder issue was all better I was able to eat whatever I wanted...amd I did just that. I don't stop when I should. I don't even stop when I feel full. It is like old Michelle all over again. Going back for a fill on Monday. I can't wait. After being so successful and getting down to 189 (and admittedly hovering around 193), I stepped on the scale this morning and read 204. 204!!!! 11 lbs in a MONTH! Holy shit. Focus is what I need and focus is what I have lost. I need to focus. Focus. I also need to blog....and stop cooking like I am Julia Child.Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-77339378955863708852012-08-17T11:08:00.001-07:002012-08-17T11:08:33.676-07:00Why Does My Gallbladder Hate Me?It has been a rough week, let me tell you. I go fromnot being able to eat or drink at the beginning of the week to wanting to cut out some of my insides at the end of the week. I am going through a gallbladder attack and it truly sucks. I don't know when it is "serious" enough to have to see a doctor. I can function...it just sucks being in constant pain until it decides to calm down. So I am curious, how many of you have experienced similar issues following surgery?Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-11708750478176834922012-08-14T11:34:00.000-07:002012-08-14T11:34:12.295-07:00Here I Sit, Waiting to Be Fixed.Yup, at the surgeon's office because I can't keep water down today. Little bit of a red flag. The heartburn has been wicked!! However, pleasant surprise to see 195 on the scale at the doctor's office....which is notoriously higher than normal scales AND fully clothed!! Silver lining to an otherwise uncomfortable day. Stay tuned :-)Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-5304004385863741112012-08-13T13:41:00.000-07:002012-08-13T13:41:28.547-07:00So IrritatedI am so irritated...literally and figuratively. My band is being a real bitch. I don't know if it is stress or if it is traveling every weekend, but man oh man am I TIGHT!!! I like restriction, but not to the point that I am PBing every single day. Sure, it is great for osing weight (no, not really...starving yourself is not the way to go), but I want to eat!!! I have discovered of all things, Chick-Fil-A chicken and shakes go down just fine. Very moist chicken and apparently I savor it enough that I am chewing it to nothing. Shakes go down just fine no matter what. LOL. Oh, and TGI Friday's cheddar bacon potato skin chips...those go down too. Lettuce? Eggs? Nope. So healthy in my eating right? Today I am doing liquids, so soup and water it is.
I am contemplating going in to see my doctor to get a slight unfill. I was at my sweet spot and doing great until this started a few weeks ago. Flying every weekend and the stress that goes along with being separated from my family is getting the best of me, I guess. It will be beautiful when this year of travel is over.
On a happier note, the weight loss is still going. I got the lovely little surprise of 189 on the scale last week.
And in other exciting news, my SIL got engaged and will be married in Nov!! So excited for her and having a lot of fun helping in her wedding planning. I bought my dress already and was beyond stoked when I was forced to get a size medium!! I kind of love Vera Wang for the fact I fit into a size medium in her clothing. I have been wearing size medium tops and dresses in other brands, but Vera had been holding out on me. Now to work my arms for the next few months to make them sleeveless friendly.Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-22145003035803380552012-07-18T20:00:00.002-07:002012-07-18T20:00:32.075-07:00Back on the Downward SlopeWith the move finished, I am actually able to cook and eat as I should. 4 weeks of eating out every meal SUCKS!! Especially when you are trying to lose weight. Now yes, there were healthy options I could have chosen, but I went the cheap route. If I never eat Taco Bell again (for at least 2 months), it will be too soon. So tired of it!!!

It is so amazing to be able to enjoy a healthy dinner and not have to worry about packing, painting or cleaning. Well, I'm helping to clean my mom's house and still transporting things from Vegas to Mesa but my stress level has dropped 90%. First drive down to AZ with a load of things that were left will be this weekend. I can't wait to actually be able to use my cooking supplies and am ESPECIALLY excited to do my Bountiful Baskets again! Yay for veggies and fruit!! Yay for healthy cooking and eating! Yay for having my kitchen stuff....on the weekends.

Short blog entry tonight, but I did want to share that after 3 months of not seeing the scale move from between 200-203, look at the treat I got to experience yesterday! :-)

Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-85716803851692184342012-07-12T19:05:00.001-07:002012-07-12T19:07:00.720-07:00I'm Baaaaaaaaack!!I know, really? A month to blog? I promise I wanted to, but I have been sooooooo busy. Things are FINALLY calming down some. We are all moved out of our house in Las Vegas and are actually moving into our house in Mesa this weekend. I will post pictures when I get down there tomorrow and actually see it. Yes, me, the control freak of all control freaks, allowed my husband and son to pick out our home in AZ. The pictures look nice, however, and I am excited to move things in and decorate. It will be my "weekend vacation home" since I am staying in Las Vegas until next summer.

On the weight loss front, there isn't much to report. I ate out every single day for a month. I am so tired of takeout food. I miss my fresh meals and fruits & veggies. However, I didn't gain anything which is a very good thing. But I didn't lose either. I am holding steady at 200 lbs, which means I still have 30 to go. Since I am now living with my mom I will get more opportunities to exercise because she built on an exercise room to her house that was finished up right before all of the packing of my house started. YAY!! Working out at home in an actual gym is going to be awesome! No excuses, right? Right, because I have weight and inches to lose!!

I will be blogging regularly from now on and will post pictures again because it really does help hold me accountable in my journey. Sorry for the lagging posts, but my life was beyond crazy for about 2 months :-)
No posting this weekend because I will be loving on my family and setting up house. Hope you have a great one and I will be back next week!!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-29711426803401294742012-06-12T08:33:00.000-07:002012-06-12T16:45:45.114-07:00I Feel Like I Have Abandoned My BlogI swear it is unintended! I have been so incredibly busy the past month that I have to remind myself to breathe! Where to start, my goodness.
My husband accepted a new job with Boeing in AZ shortly after he started working in OR. He decided to go with them because of several reasons. More money, closer to home and near his family. So, I have spent the past month packing, cleaning, painting and preparing our house for a move! My husband and son are already in AZ but I am staying in Vegas for a while. I got an amazing job offer that I could NOT pass up, so I am with another firm doing personal injury and did.not realize how good it could actually be working at a law office! My boss is so unbelievably generous and actually recognizes and rewards his staff for a job well done. What a concept! I will be traveling to AZ every weekend to be with my husband and son, and during the week will live with my mom here in LV.
I have had some more tragedy in my life as well, unfortunately. On May 18th I received the horrible news that one of my best friends had passed away. She was actually the biggest supporter of mine when I made the decision to have WLS as she had GBS 6 yrs ago. Kelly was amazing, fun loving and a fabulous woman. I miss her dearly...not a day goes by that I don't think of her or want to call/text her about something. Life is fragile, that is for sure.
I will not be blogging regularly until the move is complete, but I did want to update everyone so you didn't think I fell off the face of the Earth. I just have a million things happening in my life right now. Take care and I will be back soon!Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-64520290935473096742012-05-27T10:13:00.000-07:002012-05-27T10:13:47.144-07:001 YEAR BANDIVERSARY!!!

It has been a year. It has been a WHOLE YEAR!! I have gone through a massive transformation in the 365 days...and I am not done yet! I am down officially 75 lbs since the beginning of my journey. I had some slip-ups along the way but that was completely expected. Why? Because I am human and not perfect. I do not regret making the decision I did. Not one little bit. I did NOT take the easy way out....I changed my entire way of living to become a healthier me and I am so happy with the new me!! I am healthier both physically and mentally. I did not like myself before I had surgery. Sure I put up a good front and of course I loved myself, but I didn't like the physical being I was. My health is wonderful, my attitude, while it was always good, is even better, and my relationship with my husband has even been affected in a positive way since I started my journey. We do more together, we go out more and our marriage is that much stronger! You never realize how being unhappy with yourself affects those around you. I have a couple of pictures posted to show the physical difference. Thank you everyone for all of the support, kind words and inspiration you have provided to me the past year. Thank you to my family for helping me with my journey. Thank you to my friends for being there for me. Here is to the next year and me hitting my ultimate goal weight of 170!!

Went in yesterday and what should have been a simple 20 minute appt turned into an hour and a half ordeal. Stepped on the scale and it read 206...which made me want to cry, of course. However my BP was 90/68 and my pulse was in the high 60's. Freaking AWESOME! My resting heart rate used to always be 90+. The PA came in and we talked about what my goal weight was. I told her I want to be at 170 and she said that sounded good, but not to be surprised if when I hit 170 I decide I want to be 5-10 lbs lower. Since I am now a case pay patient I can go in as often as I need for fills, so I will go back in 2 weeks for another one. They took out 3cc last appt (when I was so swollen I couldn't even keep water down) so this time they put 1cc back in. I don't feel any real difference today so the next one should do something, but they will only do .5cc at a time from now on until I hit my sweet spot again.

The poor PA who was trying to do my fill was not having any luck with finding where to stick my port. We would think she got it but then nope. She tried for about 10 minutes the first time and then only tried twice the second stick. She was so apologetic and was afraid she was hurting me but I told her after surgery, nothing will be considered too painful to me when it comes to my abdominal area :-) She did have to go get Brian, who is the PA I usually have, and he got it the first time. He said she was right there but just being a millimeter off with the angle will get you. I felt bad for her because she has been having a rough week with ports. LOL

Came back to work feeling pretty good. Drank my smoothie and then had nothing but water the rest of the day. My husband made dinner for he and our boy but I wanted to stab him for waiting until I got home to do it...especially since I worked late. The smell was killing me so I went to bed at 8:00. However, you always forget how much you lose when you are on liquids only for 24 hrs. I was down to 202 this morning. I will be happy when I am under 200 again and working my way down to my goal weight.

I found out the other day that my gym membership isn't up until June, so I am not sure why I was thinking April. NO EXCUSES!! Even if it is just doing Zumba in my family room, I need to get moving again. I wanted to be at 100 lbs lost by my 1 year but I will settle for whatever I have because I would have earned that. It will still be considerably less than I was a year ago!

Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-67682699728669404532012-04-16T10:19:00.002-07:002012-04-16T10:32:29.855-07:00Boy Oh BoyI have been avoiding the scale....a LOT. For someone who would weigh herself every day, you know that is big. Why have I been avoiding it? Because I know how I have been eating...and how much I have been eating. I stepped on the scale this morning and it read 206. 206!!!! I have gained 7 POUNDS since my emergency unfill. Holy shit!

I called and set up an appointment to get in on Wednesday to get some restriction again. I am so disappointed with myself. I can't believe I let that happen. I haven't been weighing my food, just guesstimating what I am eating, and I am eating whenever I get the urge...which is every couple of hours. I miss not being hungry for 5-6 hours at a time. I don't miss getting stuck, but it is reality check time. I am a month away from my 1 year bandiversary and haven't gotten to where I want to be. My eating sucks the past few weeks (I say new job stress), my gym membership expired yesterday (which I haven't used in over 6 months!!) and I need to get it together!

On a positive note, we are getting some awesome deals from our Bountiful Baskets and I canned for the first time yesterday! We added 25 lbs of carrots and 25 lbs of Roma tomatoes to our order this past week. I didn't realize just how many carrots are in 25 lbs. Holy monkey. I canned 10 pints of them and the hubby has dehydrated probably 10 lbs. We are still left with 10 lbs and getting creative in using them up! My tomatoes aren't ripe enough to use for sauce and canning, but I can't wait for them to be ready so I can try these yummy recipes! I am liking the idea of actually knowing what is in my food now, so I am going to be doing more things like this. I'm making brussel sprouts for dinner tonight, so wish me luck!
Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-84314621028580074812012-04-09T12:55:00.002-07:002012-04-09T13:27:37.055-07:00Ham DetoxHappy Belated Easter to all! I had a very laid back, easy going day. Those are quickly becoming my favorite types of holidays. Don't get me wrong, I love having family and friends together for special days, but it is equally as nice to have just the 3 of us (or 6 if you count the dogs) together for the day.

I cooked a honey glazed ham, southern green beans (OMG) and mashed sweet potatoes. I was channeling the cooking skills of a 55 yr old southern woman yesterday. It was all pretty incredible though! The green beans and potatoes in the the southern green beans were from our Bountiful Basket as well as the sweet potatoes. And let me tell you something, those were the most flavorful and tasty sweet potatoes I have ever had!! I LOVE our Bountiful Baskets! However today I am paying for the eating yesterday. Not that I overdid it, but just what I ate. You forget that ham blows you up like a balloon with all of the sodium in it! I have been drinking like a camel today to flush it all out...but since we are having leftovers for dinner tonight it may not matter ;-)
Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-17501114680842577632012-04-05T12:11:00.003-07:002012-04-05T12:27:56.064-07:00I Can BLOG Again!!I was prevented from doing so for a few weeks at the old office. Yup, I am now at a new job and feel wonderful about it!! Working with a really nice sole practitioner and there is NO drama. It is a beautiful thing!! I am learning all there is to know about criminal law, which is something I have never done in 12 yrs of being a paralegal, so it is new and exciting! My work days fly by and I am half the distance to my house :-) Hubby spent a few weeks down in TX and came home last Friday with his A&P license, so he is scurrying to find a job now. Hoping something happens for him quickly!

On the weight loss front, it is on hiatus. I can eat anything. I have ZERO restriction since they fixed me by taking out 3 cc when I wasn't able to consume anything. Does that mean I am eating anything and everything? No. I am restraining myself. I am holding off on going back in for a fill because I will be a cash pay patient now. What is cool is that I pay $175 and I am good for 3 months. I can go in as many times as I want. I just don't have the extra money until my husband starts working, so it is all on me to behave and not eat everything in sight. But it is weird to be able to eat and not worry about getting stuck. Like, for instance, I am enjoying a lovely wet bean & cheese burrito from Roberto's for lunch today. I have only eaten 1/3 of it because I am full, but the tortilla goes right down. So for now I am not losing weight, but I am also not gaining so that makes me happy. I have been doing some working out finally and tried my Zumba Wii game. Holy crap does that work you out! I was sore from dancing. DANCING!! I may not be losing weight for now, but I am fitting into some 14's and that makes up for it. I haven't been in 14's since my son was 6 (so 8 yrs)!!

Anywhoodles, I hope to get back on here on a regular basis again. I think I have progress pictures that I am supposed to do tomorrow and am not really looking forward to that, but oh well. I will probably spend the next week catching up on everyone else's posts, but it is good to be back!
Michelle H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12381209099287890690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5015967465457559471.post-29430318711704436882012-03-18T16:03:00.004-07:002012-03-18T16:20:53.546-07:00Adventures In Cheese Waxing
I have said on here before that I am somewhat of a "prepper." Not prepping for a certain event, just being prepared for what may come in the future. As we have seen the past year, you never know how your family can be affected by things that happen in the world. I have done food storage for almost 4 yrs now and it came in very handy for my family during difficult financial times. I am also making more band friendly decisions in my food storage for me to be able to eat what we have stored! No rice, bread or pasta for me, so I am getting more creative :-) So I have followed in the footsteps of the Preparedness Pro (LOVE her) and started making more shelf stable food for my pantry that I can actually eat. I have already preserved dozens of eggs to make them shelf stable, but today my mom and I waxed cheese. It was a little more work than I thought it would be, but it is super cool! I have 13 lbs to do and did 6 today. Some things I would have done differently? Used more wax and/or a less wide and deeper bowl for dipping. Since I don't have an actual double boiler I just did a metal bowl in a big pot. I needed more depth. Here are some photos of our cheese waxing day!
<img style="display:block;
